My mother…

…passed away last Wednesday, peacefully and surrounded by much love. Now she’s both acutely absent and intensely present…

Thank you for your words of comfort during this difficult time. They meant a lot to me.

My condolences to you and your family, MC.

Looking at your photos, it's easy to see that you and your beloved mother have the same dancing eyes. She is part of you and will be with you through the everlasting bond of love.

Thank you all for your sympathy. Yes, I had a great mom. She was a "grande dame" (great lady) in a tiny body. She had always been short. She often told how, when she was in 6th grade, her homeroom teacher pretended not to see her at her desk since she was so small and joked about her size (hopefully a no-no in today's schools). Another, kinder teacher, told her later that the best ointments came in the smallest jars ("c'est dans les petits pots qu'on met les meilleurs onguents"). Later still, when she became a math & science teacher in a high school, a colleague turned her away from the teachers' room on the first day of class, telling her that it was off limit to students. So, yes, she was tiny. But she had a will of iron and immense strength and she was kind and loving. I miss her.
